Important Class Information

Monday

All reading books will be checked. Regular reading is monitored.

Wednesday

Mrs MacRae will be teaching on a Wednesday afternoon.

PE

We have PE on Thursdays and Fridays.

Homework

Year 2s will be given homework on a Friday. It will be reading or maths based. This needs to handed in at some point the following week. There is no set day to hand it in. 

All children need to complete a reading activity once a week in the back of their reading record books.

After October half term, children will be given a number badge practice sheet. This sheet is not required to be sent back in, it is for practice purposes only.

We have looked at the story of The Gingerbread Man'. We have been baking some gingerbread man cookies. 

We have been learning how to sew running stitch and back stitch. We have been learning about tartan patterns.

As part of our topic on Flowers and Insects, we visited Quince Honey Farm.

We have been making some honeybee fridge magnets out of clay.

Celebrating the King's Coronation.

We have been painting sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. 

Comic Relief 2023!

We have been making some 'Thaumatropes' - a Victorian optical illusion toy.

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as characters from the book we've been reading, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. We even wrote golden tickets and hid them around the school! 

We have been looking at the work of Jackson Pollock. We had a go at creating some artwork in his style. We called them our 'splatter paintings'. 

Our new area of learning is 'Sensational!'. We are investigating how our senses work. We created some optical illusion artwork based on the famous 'Cafe Wall Illusion'. 

We made some Great Fire of London artwork using tissue paper.

We have been learning about the Great Fire of London. We did some artwork using marbling ink.

Christmas Festivities! We had a Christmas shopping afternoon, Christmas dinner and a Christmas party. Lots of fun!

Commemorating the 100 years since the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb. We had a visit from Howard Carter!

Supporting Children in Need 2022.

We have been making King Arthur crowns as part of our DT lessons. We planned and learned how to joined parts together. 

Our new learning theme is 'The Stories People Tell'. We visited Glastonbury Abbey and learned the story and legend of King Arthur. We also visited the Abbot's Kitchen and learned how they used to prepare their food. 

We have been investigating creating pivots and linking it to our science work looking at the major organs of the body.

We have been learning about how different fruits are grown around the world and which fruits are grown in the UK.

We have been exploring self-portraits in the style of Paul Klee.

Our new theme for this half term is 'Who Am I?'. We have been painting some self-portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso.
