While Year 5 have been away on the Isle of Wight, Year 4 have been learning about tropical rainforests. We started our topic by learning about where in the world we find rainforests, the different layers and the animals living within those layers. In PE, we learnt about orienteering and each child used their map-reading skills to locate their own rainforest animal.
The children then used books and the internet to find out more about their rainforest creature. When we visited Bristol Zoo, they were able to observe and find out more about their animal.
As part of our visit to the zoo, we had a rainforest experience session in one of the classrooms.
The children learnt about and held Madagascan hissing cockroaches.
They also met a Brazilian rainbow boa from South America.
Finally, they met a Jungle nymph from Southeast Asia.
The children then got hands-on answering questions about the rainforest.
