Science Day

In Literacy, we have been reading The Polar Bear Explorer's Club so to tie the two subjects together we learnt about polar exploration for Science Day.

During the day, Class 4 learnt about the different types of organism which live in the Arctic. They looked at different Arctic food chains and created a food web. After learning about nutrition, food groups and that polar explorers need to eat around 8000 calories a day, the children were tasked with creating a menu for an expedition.

Finally, the children learnt about the importance of keeping warm on a polar expedition. They carried out an experiment to see which materials were the best insulators. As well, they found out about how polar animals keep warm. Below are some photos of children using a 'blubber glove' to keep their hands warm in the snow.

“By working together in an exciting, creative and supportive Christian environment we will challenge and inspire every child to become highly literate, numerate, sociable and healthy, with a thirst for continued learning and a belief in their ability to become significant citizens”
