Class 2

Welcome to Class 2!

Class 2.

Curiculum Synopsis for the Autumn Term 2015

Curriculum Synopsis for the Spring Term

The Titanic

In the Spring term we did a topic about The Sinking of the Titanic.

We learnt all about how the ship was built and powered, what life was like on the ship, why it sank and why we should never have another disaster like that again.

We had our own shipyard in the classroom where we designed and built junk models of the ship, and we used our role play area as the ship's Cafe Parisien.

To conclude our topic we visited the SS Great Britain.  We saw how different life was for the people travelling in 1st, 2nd and 3rd "class". Then we went to a workshop where we learnt how to rivet metal plates. Finally we all dressed up as engineers, crew, rich ladies and Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his friends, and went to launch the ship!

Mince pies!

We have been making (and eating) mince pies!

Christmas Decorations

We have been decorating the classroom. Our theme this year is Christmas carols. Can you name the carol from the decoration?

We have been painting, cutting, sticking, glueing, glittering, scrunching and moulding. We have been busy!

Taking rubbings of materials used to build our school.

The Antaro Duo

Last week we had a visit from the Antara Duo. We learnt all about the harp and flute. We sang the Grand Old Duke of York loudly and then softly, and learnt what 'piano'and 'forte' mean when you are plaing an instument.

Visit from the Fire Service

Firefighters from Bridgwater Fire Station came to visit us. They showed us round their Fire Engine and taught us about their Personal Protective Equipment. They told us all about their job and how we can keep safe at home.

Coronation Celebrations

As part of our special day to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II becoming our longest reigning monarch, we re-enacted the Cornation. We dressed up as the Archbishop of Canterbury, Queen Elizabeth, her ladies in waiting, foriegn royalty and representatives of the Commonwealth. We paraded from the classroom to the playground where we stood under the Union Flag as Mr MacRae explained the importance of the day.

We made iced buns.

As part of our RE work on harvest we learnt about how flour is made and how bread is baked.

In literacy we have been thinking about verbs so while we made our buns we thought of all the verbs we were using.

“By working together in an exciting, creative and supportive Christian environment we will challenge and inspire every child to become highly literate, numerate, sociable and healthy, with a thirst for continued learning and a belief in their ability to become significant citizens”
