OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD 2008

For many years Enmore Primary School has supported Samaritans Purse by helping bring happiness to children who are less fortunate than themselves. Samaritan’s Purse is an organisation that distributes small gifts to children in countries that are caught in wars, natural disasters and poverty.

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project. In 2007 the Samaritans purse sent 1.3 million shoe boxes from the UK to children in the hospitals, orphanages and other places.

At the moment Enmore Primary School are collecting small gifts to fill their shoe boxes. Before they do this they have to decide whether they want to send it to a boy or a girl and what age they want to send it to.

Pat and Stuart who work for Samaritans Purse help with Operation Christmas Child. On Monday 10th November they came to Enmore to take an assembly on Operation Christmas Child. They came in to give us some ideas on what to put in our boxes and where the boxes go. First of all they showed us what some children get for Christmas in Romania and then what we got for Christmas in England. Children in Romania only get food and water, in England we get enormous sacks full of presents!

Pat and Stuart held a competition to see which team was the best at wrapping shoe boxes. There were four teams Blues, Reds, Greens and Yellows. The Reds won easily and had the neatest box as well! We all had fun and we’re still collecting lots more shoe boxes filled with presents.

The power of a simple gift can lead to great happiness!
