HARVEST SERVICE 2006

Our Harvest Service took place on Friday 24th September. Unfortunately the rain prevented us from walking to our local Church, so it was held in the School Hall.

Our pictures show Class 4 practicing in the church earlier in the week. The theme of the service was Caring for Our World. Class 4 told the Creation story in words and pictures and created a Thank You prayer from the letters in the sentence below.

The children had worked very hard and the service was appreciated by everyone. Tins and packets of food were received by Mr and Mrs Bussey from the church council.

CREATION STORY

Millions of years ago there was no life and no sound. There was nothing but blackness. It was cold and deserted without movement. Our world was just a big black hole of nothingness.

But God had an idea. A brilliant idea, and suddenly, from out of the darkness came a great ball of fire. He called such brightness day and the blackness he called night.

On the second day God saw endless shimmering water. Just one massive ocean. Waves crashing into each other. Ripples making funny shapes. God was enjoying these funny shapes but decided something must be done. He moved the sea to one place and made a space above it. He called this space heaven and painted it blue. He put white fluffy clouds there which drifted around making peculiar shapes.

On the third day God examined his world. There was blue heaven and shimmering oceans. But God thought that there was too much water and too much sky so he gathered all the water into one place and commanded that the land appear. He thought the land looked deserted, all of it was lifeless. It was brown marshland without any movement. The ocean crashed on the edge of the land viciously. There were no animals to play about in the forest, desert, or plains. There were no trees for monkeys to play in. No beautiful flowers to be seen at all.

From the nothingness came the first acorn. The first shoot. The first ever colours. Sunflowers began blooming into the brightness of the day. Blossom started springing to life. God made red roses and white daises. He made tall trees and greed grass. Our wonderful world was just beginning.

On the 4th day, high up in the sky God ordered a big ball of fire to glow and he called it the sun.

God then commanded the moon, which was a glowing ball, to give a more gentle light in the night sky. He also ordered stars to sparkle up and shine in the dark.

God glanced down at the clear oceans and saw that they looked empty. He decided to make different sizes and different shapes of fish which he gave silvery scales and other splendid colours. He also created other sea animals like dolphins and jellyfish. The sky looked lovely but it needed something to brighten it up. So God made birds of many colours to glide and swoop and flutter happily in the beautiful, clear blue sky.

On the 6th day God glanced around. He was proud of what he had made. Just then he listened. He didn’t hear a thing so he decided to give the world what it needed. He created animals furry and scaly, big and small. From the king of the jungle which is the tiger to the king of the African plains which is the lion. He made man to look after the animals.

On the 7th day God had a nice long rest. He was proud of what he had done. Nothing could look better than this. He thought he would call this day Sunday which would be a holy day. God wanted his people to rest on this special day.
