CLASS 5

English

Class 5 have used their speaking and listening skills, which has been helping them plan and try out their ideas before they write. They have practised giving instructions for how to use a web site by role playing being at a call centre help desk!

They then made notes on their white boards to prepare for the written work.

We have recently written newspaper reports about a visit we had from Beryl Hawkins, a local resident and ex-pupil. The class enjoyed finding out about how the school and lessons have changed and what has remained the same.

The children prepared questions, and then wrote a newspaper style report about the visit. We enjoyed meeting Beryl and learning more about the school.

Art

The children have been studying movement in art. We have explored famous paintings and studied form and proportion, using the shapes we can make in PE to help us. We are now making our own animations using plasticine.

History

In March we had a visit from Somerset Record Office. We learnt a lot about our school’s past from a selection of original documents, and looked at 1800’s census data using a microfiche machine. The children were set tasks to help them explore these sources, and we were all excited to see how life had change over the last 200 years.
