As part of our work on Plants and Animals in the Local Environment, Class 2 went on a visit to the Avalon Marshes. There we learnt all about the birds that are native to this area including the Bittern, which is one of Britain’s rarest breeding birds. We learnt to recognise several birds by both their look and by their sound.
We then went on a 'Discovery Walk', to put our new skills into practise and to search for 'mini-beasts' along the way.
Finally we did some pond-dipping and tried to identify our 'creatures' from identification charts.
We had a wonderful day and found lots of interesting things to look at and talk about.
